My logic on bluffing.

Ok, here is my logic on bluffing. I will usually shut down but i had a few reads that I went on and went ahead and 2 barrel and 3 barrel.

Hand 1. http://www.pokerhand.org/?1236716

Villian here is 47/37/2.92. His WtoSD = 18.18 and W$atSD = 50%. I had 69 hands on him.

This guy had a wide range and i wasn't sure what he CC me preflop. I had a tight image and I was going to rep a big overpair. I felt that he was on a flush draw and betted all the way. I felt that if he had a 8x on the flop he would of raised me. He was pretty solid post flop too and I like to put pressure on these guys because they can fold hands.

Would you play it differently? Would you bluff on the river or just give up?

Hand 2. http://www.pokerhand.org/?1236742

Villian here is 28/10/1.25. His WtoSD = 21.45 and W$atSD = 33.33. I had 50 hands on him.

This guy was loose passive. I had a rocky image.

On the flop, I always bet my nut flush draws.

On turn, I check for pot control and felt he was going to call me down with a pair of 2, 4, or flush draw.

On the river, he checked and felt i had to bluff to win the pot. I dont think he would be ck calling with a pair of Jacks or better.

Yikes, he check raises me. I wonder what he had? Possibly a set of 10 or a weird 2 pr. Do you bluff this river too?

thanks for all the comments. Be as critical as possible, I won't feel bad. I'm trying to improve.

I honestly don't like bluffing at either of these spots. I think the board is too dry on the first hand and a player with those stats is going to call you down with any pocket pair and maybe a little bit wider range.

In Hand 2 I don't think the board changes enough on the turn and river for you to bluff. Your story doesn't convince him enough of a hand. If a Q-A came on the turn and or river, I'd like to take a stab at it.

Hand 1: I don't like the 3 barrel OOP. I usually shut down after a cbet is called in this situation if I don't have position or a great draw.

Hand 2: I agree with MattDillion when after you make river bet, he says "huh???". I like to bet the turn here also, but checking behind for pot control is fine with one small problem. If flush comes, you usually aren't getting called if you checked the turn and bet the river......and if it doesn't come, you can't bet without being called by any pair most times.

Your better off to bet turn and check river than to check turn and bet river when you are on a draw. And if you bet turn and river even when you miss, at least you have a shot of taking it down.

H1: I think you probably want to shut down after the flop bet is called and definitely want to shut down after the turn bet is called. There's just nothing you beat and he doesn't look like he wants to fold.

H2: I prefer to bet the turn and check the river most of the time.

Hand 1) I think I'd probably give up on the flop, it's not really worth firing three barrels here. If you're really intent on bluffing here, check-raising the turn is a better line, but I still think just giving up is better.

Hand 2) Betting the river after checking the turn is pretty weak and there's nothing you're really credibly representing.

Hand 1: I just rarely ever 3 barrel bluff. It's just not generally worth it at these levels, and you don't need to do it to turn a decent profit. I think this play will work sometimes and sometimes not. I don't think a horrendous attempt but, like I say, I just don't bother.

Hand 2: I definitely don't bluff this river. You could win with A high (unlikely) but he's probably calling with any hands that beat you. I think you played it great up to the river where I think it's best just to check behind. I like checking that turn because a lot of players at these levels like to check-call the flop and lead the river after the turn has been checked through. You get to raise if you hit your flush or snap off his bet if you hit your A.

Hand 1: If you thought he'd raise you with an 8 I don't mind a 3 barrel here...now that you have been called down the key is to adjust to what your image now is, and make a note that this guy will call all the way down with weak top pair weak kicker.

Hand 2: With nut flush draw and gutshot would firing the turn be okay here too? I know you don't want to be raised off your big draw but it might be okay to fire out another bet here. Once you check the turn I think it's tough to bluff the river profitably. And I guess he had something. :)

Hand 1: I leak a lot with these sorts of hands. What I'm going to try doing is shutting down after my flop bet is called unless I have a specific read that he'll peel the flop and fold the turn. I assumed there would be a lot of this, but I don't think at these levels there is so much. I do think that if you 2-barrel in this hand, it's worth a 3rd barrel, given the read you have.

Hand 2: I would check behind turn and river. The reason I wouldn't bet the turn is that I wouldn't want to lose another heart draw, and I wouldn't want to put money in against a made hand, or be checkraised off my hand. Once you do check the turn, I think he's not going to fold that many hands that beat you at this point, so I would just take the free showdown.

Hand 1: I do not like the 3 barrel the board just has not change enough to get him to fold a hand.
Hand 2:I like the check on the turn and a check on the river if you miss. If you make your hand he is likely to bet into since alot of people bet into you when you check the turn.

I pretty much agree with what the other people have said here and would shut down on Hand 1 on the Turn having had your Pre and Post flop bets called.

As for Hand 2, I probably bet the turn here but definately not the River, your only going to be called by someone with a better hand.

hand 1: after the second barrel just give up. remember at .25/.50 they won't fold top pair.

hand2: the check on the turn takes away your credibility for a river bluff.

thanks for all the comments. I've taken what you have said and now think those 2 plays are marginal at best.

I need to wait for a scare card or just give up. Funny things is these plays do work, but usually only against multi tabling tags and sometimes lags who can actually fold.

These two plays are probably is losing me money long run but will allow me to get paid later on in the session because my bigger hands will get paid off since i've established i can bluff 2 or 3 times.
